With Rob Zombie’s latest horrific foray met with tepid reviews and meager ticket receipts (HALLOWEEN 2), the rocker-turned-director can rest a bit easier now that his much shelved animation project THE HAUNTED WORLD OF EL SUPERBEASTO will reap ancillary VOD revenue.
According to Variety, Starz Media has plans to market the R-rated animated feature as alternate programming to the WWE-heads comic-book junkies. In addition to being currently available via Comcast, DirecTV and Dish Network, SUPERBEASTO will enjoy a limited run of 50 or so theaters peppered throughout half the country (22 states, technically).
For those a little fuzzy, Zombie’s cartoon hell-ride is based on his own comic book about the crime-fighting travails of sexy-ass secret agent and a washed up wrestler named Beasto. Though the flick is animated, it stars such live-action heavy hitters as Rosario Dawson, Paul Giamatti, as well as stable of Zombie mainstays like Sherri Moon, Sid Haig, Bill Moseley Dee Wallace, Danny Trejo, Geoffrey Lewis, and Ken Foree.
The flick will also be shelved on DVD and Blu-ray September 22 (big ups to my sis’ B-day!!!) and the same day can be downloaded on iTunes, Amazon, Playstation and Xbox.
