Can an oversized Santa’s helper succeed where a superhero like Spider-Man has (so far) failed?
While the big-budget Spider-Man Broadway muscial has continually crumbled, Will Ferrell’s Christmas fave ELF will dance and sing and jingle all the way through the holidays. A stage musical is currently in the works, adapting director Jon Favreau’s whimsical tale of naive human “elf” Buddy, who ventures from the North Pole to the Big Apple on a quest to meet his real parents.
Thomas Meehan, a Tony Award winner for ANNIE, THE PRODUCERS and HAIRSPRAY, is co-writing the show’s book. The music and lyrics is being provided by the team who worked on the Broadway adaptation of THE WEDDING SINGER, which I didn’t even realize had also been a stage musical.
The show will (obviously) run from Thanksgiving through New Year’s, a lucrative time for Broadway thanks to the tourists flocking to New York for shopping.
