Elfman & Raimi no more?

Recently, there’s been a rift developing between once good buddies. No, not Ebert & Roeper (though one of these days Ebert may eat Roeper. Hey, you never know…), I’m referring to one Sam Raimi and one Danny Elfman. While not much has been coming from Raimi, Elfman has gone out of his way, it seems, to let people know that he and Raimi will no longer work together on any projects. Ever.

Over at SuicideGirls, Dan Epstein interviewed Elfman (composer for LEATHERFACE: TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE III, BATMAN, CORPSE BRIDE and countless other films) on his upcoming projects (not just composing, directing-wise) and the question arose as to whether Elfman would once again be handling the score for the next installment in the SPIDER-MAN series. Elfman replied, “Let me put it this way, there is no amount of money that anybody could offer me to do SPIDER-MAN 3. I would sooner go back to bussing tables.” Ouch.

Elfman continues, saying that Raimi “was at the top of [his] list” for directors to work with, since they got along so well. The reason for Elfman’s displeasure with Sam? It wasn’t clear, but Elfman said that the person who was there at the end of SPIDER-MAN 2, wasn’t the same man Elfman had worked with for over 15 years. Jeez, talk about a falling out.
