Ellen Page to star in zombie thriller The Third Wave

Ellen Page has found herself faced with villainous mutants, reality-bending dreams, and teenage pregnancy, but she'll soon find herself faced with those dreaded eaters of flesh known as zombies. THR reports that Ellen Page is set to star in THE THIRD WAVE, a zombie thriller from David Freyne which gives a fresh (ish) spin on the genre.

Instead of being set during the zombie apocalypse like many of its brethren, THE THIRD WAVE will be "set in a time after a virus that transformed humans into zombie-like monsters has been cured. But many of the once-infected humans are now shunned by society and even their families, creating social unrest that leads to militant government interference." David Freyne will be making his feature directorial debut with THE THIRD WAVE, which will be based on his proof of concept prequel short titled THE FIRST WAVE. Production on THE THIRD WAVE is set to get underway in Ireland in late 2016. Ellen Page commented:

The Third Wave brings an entire new perspective to the zombie genre, which I love. David Freyne truly shifts his lens on society's role in the apocalyptic world. I'm so grateful for this opportunity to share his thoughtful approach to horror with audiences.

THE THIRD WAVE won't be the only upcoming project starring Ellen Page to deal with death, she's also attached to star in a remake of Joel Schumacher's 1990 sci-fi/horror FLATLINERS alongside Diego Luna (ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY) and Nina Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries).
