Elm Street scribes

The folks at Platinum Dunes are looking to score their dream-team of writers for the planned remake/re-whatever-ing of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. And who are these two scribes? Why, it’s Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (the dudes who wrote the upcoming FRIDAY THE 13TH re-imagining as well as the good-time battle FREDDY VS JASON). Clearly, these two have a flair for the “man with the glove” and “Crystal Lake’s favorite camper”, and in my opinion, would be a good choice for Dunes.

I’m surprised to admit that I’m actually growing pretty excited about the FRIDAY re-imagining, which probably explains why I’m cool with Freddy getting a similar treatment. Perhaps, the world is beginning to accept the notion that we may never see the birth of a brand new, legendary slasher franchise (but don’t count out Leslie Vernon or Victor Crawley just yet). However, I feel that the new NIGHTMARE’s success will hinge greatly on whom they get to play Mr. Kruger. (Eric last reported here that Robert Englund was not being considered.) With Jason or Michael Myers, it’s a little easier to recapture the classic look because they wore signature masks, but with Freddy, well, that’s basically Robert Englund’s burnt face. Sure, there’s lots of make-up FX on him, but there’s no denying when you look at Freddy, you see Englund, and vice versa.

No precise release dates have been set, though IMDB is listing it as 2010. Here’s the synopsis they also give: In a small town, two FBI agents must track down a child rapist who uses a knifed glove to mutilate his victims.

F VS J’s Monica Keena.
