Emile Hirsch is game for a Speed Racer sequel

Upon its release ten years ago (time certainly flies), the Wachowski's SPEED RACER was met with largely negative reviews, but over the years, the live-action cartoon has steadily increased its cult following with many now viewing the film as an underrated masterpiece. The Wachowski's already had plans for a sequel before the release of SPEED RACER, but as the film wound up becoming a bit of a box-office bomb, those plans obviously never materialized. However, with the film now much more popular than it ever was, perhaps it's time to get the gang back together for that long-awaited sequel, and Emile Hirsch is certainly up to returning. The actor took to Twitter to celebrate the tenth anniversary of SPEED RACER and challenged fans to show Warner Bros. just how much they love the film with the hopes of igniting that sequel spark.

Adapted from the 1960s' manga and anime series of the same name, SPEED RACER starred Emile Hirsch as Speed Racer, Christina Ricci as Trixie, John Goodman as Pops Racer, Susan Sarandon as Mom Racer, Paulie Litt as Spritle Racer, and Matthew Fox as Racer X. The titular racer grew up to follow in the footsteps of his allegedly deceased brother, but after choosing to remain loyal to his family, Royalton Industries CEO E.P. Arnold Royalton (Roger Allam) seeks to take Speed and his family out of the racing game by any means necessary.

Any SPEED RACER fans out there who would love to see a sequel?
