Emile Hirsch joins Olivia Thirlby in the alien invasion flick The Darkest Hour

Just a few weeks ago Olivia Thirlby (below) jumped on board a little alien invasion movie called THE DARKEST HOUR (see that shite HERE) for director Chris Gorak. Today we have even bigger casting news for the flick, which just landed the impressive Emile Hirsch!

According to Variety, Hirsch has joined the $40M budgeted New Regency / Summit Entertainment flick that’s scheduled to start filming this June in Russia. But what you may be thinking is, what is THE DARKEST HOUR all about? For one, it’s described a bit like 28 DAYS LATER, for another…it goes something like this: a group of kids struggle to survive in Russia after an alien invasion.

It doesn’t get any more simple or basic than that! Plus, did I mention WANTED director Timur Bekmambetov is producing? I didn’t? Well, he is. Making this project just that much cooler.

Hirsch is a great actor who could bring a lot of intensity to a project like this. It’ll be interesting to see him in something that’s not quite so serious, and a little more fun than what he’s normally attached to. Plus, what’s maybe even more key… he totally has the Russian look down already.

Stick around for more casting updates as we get closer to the first day of filming this June in Russia.
