Emma Watson joins a cult to find her missing beloved in the Colonia trailer

COLONIA follows a young couple, Lena (Emma Watson) and Daniel (Daniel Bruhl), as they become entangled in the Chilean military coup of 1973. Daniel is abducted by Pinochet's secret police and Lena tracks him to a sealed off area in the South of the country, called Colonia Dignidad. The Colonia presents itself as a charitable mission run by lay preacher Paul Schafer but, in fact, is a place nobody ever escaped from. Lena decides to join the cult in order to find her abducted boyfriend, and you can check out the first trailer for COLONIA below!

Emma Watson has been no slouch as of late, with REGRESSION hitting theaters later this year and BEAUTY IN THE BEAST already in the can. I'd say the longevity of her career is not resting on her acting chops (which are just dandy) but rather the films she chooses to do. BEAST will undoubtedly extend her life in cinema, but it looks like COLONIA may prove to be a solid drama. Given that it's playing at the Toronto International Film Festival (check out our coverage here), hopefully we'll hear about a solid US release date soon.

COLONIA will most likely hit theaters sometime in 2016.
