File this one under “Not surprised at all.” ShocktillyouDrop (and THIS site as well) is reporting the new NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET film – to be directed by some music-video tool no doubt – will not be featuring Robert Englund in the role of Freddy Kruger.
The article cites sources within the industry claiming Englund isn’t in the picture at all – which really isn’t a shocker (pun intended) since this is one of those glorious Platinum Dunes “reimaginings” that are supposed to make us think it’s anything other than a remake.
I’d guess someone like Sean Bean (who was of course in the botched Platinum Dunes redo THE HITCHER) will be taking the reins – in other words, no one we’ll get very excited about. I suppose it depends on what angle they’ll be going for with Freddy – cheesy and jokey, or sinister and creepy. Who do YOU think will fill the glove – or even better – who would you WANT?
Here’s a name I’ll throw out there: Jackie Earle Haley (brilliant in LITTLE CHILDREN; and soon to be seen in WATCHMEN). Check him out below – he’d kick some ass as the Krugs!
