Epix shares Pennyworth premiere date, new teaser trailer and images

Epix has served up the premiere date, a second teaser trailer, and new images on a silver platter to those looking forward to witnessing the origin story of Bruce Wayne's butler with a heart of gold. In the new 23-second teaser, we find Jack Bannon's Alfred Pennyworth meeting Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge) for the first time,  back when the Wayne Enterprises entrepreneur was a young billionaire looking to make Gotham a better place for one and all. Epix has now set a premiere date of July 28th at 9 p.m. for the 10-episode, hour-long drama series from Warner Horizon Scripted Television is based on DC characters created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger. It follows Bruce Wayne’s legendary butler, Alfred Pennyworth (Jack Bannon), a former British SAS soldier in his 20s, who forms a security company and goes to work with a young billionaire Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge), who’s not yet Bruce’s father, in 1960s London.

In addition to Jack Bannon (The Imitation Game, Ripper Street) and Ben Aldridge (Our Girl, Fleabag), cast members include multi-award-winning recording artist Paloma Faith, Jason Flemyng (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Ryan Fletcher (Outlander), Hainsley Lloyd Bennett (Eastenders), Emma Paetz (Gentleman Jack), Polly Walker (The Mentalist, Rome) and Emma Corrin (The Crown).

PENNYWORTH hails from executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (GothamThe MentalistRome) and executive producer/director Danny Cannon (GothamCSI series). Production on the series is currently underway at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, in the UK.

In addition to today's premiere date and teaser trailer reveal, Epix also dropped a series of images related to the series, which you can see for yourself below. Each shot has Alfred looking suave, sophisticated, and seriously dedicated to his position as a lethal SAS soldier. The pics also offer us a look at some of the show's gorgeous set design and period-appropriate costuming. While some might have scoffed at the idea of an Alfred Pennyworth solo series, the promotional materials hailing from this project are doing a fine job of painting it as something worth checking out.

Personally, Alfred has always been one of my favorite characters related to the Bat-family, and so I must admit that I'm definitely intrigued by Epix's latest head-tilting idea for a series. Are they scraping the bottom of the barrel for Bat-related shows or will PENNYWORTH be the start of a fantastic series of off-shoots hailing from DC's Bat-verse? We'll have to wait until July 28th to find out for sure, but in the meantime, I'll be eagerly awaiting this one.
