Erzulie trailer: swamp mermaid goddess will terrorize Los Angeles next week

Following a run at the Broad Theater in New Orleans and a screening at the California Mermaid Convention in Sacramento, director Christine Chen’s “swamp mermaid goddess” fantasy horror film Erzulie will next be enjoying a big screen run, courtesy of Moth to Flame, at the Laemmle Glendale theatre in Los Angeles, where it will be showing from May 27th to June 2nd. In anticipation of this theatrical release, we’ve gotten our hands on the trailer for Erzulie, and you can check it out in the embed above.

If you won’t be able to catch Erzulie at the Laemmle Glendale, don’t be too disheartened. Gravitas Ventures and Kamikaze Dogfight are teaming up to release the film on digital platforms on June 14th.

Scripted by Christine Chen and Camille Gladney, Erzulie has the following synopsis:

A reunion between four friends quickly goes awry when they find themselves face to face with ERZULIE: the swamp mermaid goddess.

The film stars Zoe Graham (Scare Package), Elizabeth Trieu (Support the Girls), Courtney Olivier (Natural Disasters), Diana Rose (Best of the Worst Days), and Jason Kirkpatrick (Deepwater Horizon), with Leila Annastasia Scott, in her feature film debut, as the titular Erzulie. Scott has previously worked on multiple short films.

Chen produced Erzulie with Payten Brewer, Candice Barley, Han Soto, and Andrew Van Den Houton.

Chen has previously directed several short films, a short documentary, episodes of the shows Do Better and Public Displays of Insanity, and the 2019 comedy drama feature Funemployment.

I have been interested in killer mermaid stories ever since reading a story called Aquacarnivora in the magazine Monsters Attack when I was just five years old, so I’ll probably check out Erzulie at some point. Does this look like a movie you’d want to watch? Let us know you feelings about the Erzulie trailer by leaving a comment below.
