“Nobody draws until the can hits the ground.”

Snake Plissken’s return in the sequel, Escape from L.A., will be getting a 4K upgrade, according to Blu-ray.com. The movie will be celebrating its 30th anniversary with an ultra-HD Blu-ray and Steelbook, courtesy of Paramount Home Media Distribution. While the film had director John Carpenter, producer Debra Hill and star Kurt Russell writing the script, most fans found the film to be a goofier retread of the original and it would only make half its budget back in its domestic run. For fans of the film, the 30th anniversary 4K will be available this summer when it hits retailers on June 2.

“Draw.”

The description reads,
The man with the patch is back. Call him Snake. Kurt Russell rejoins filmmakers John Carpenter and Debra Hill to do to the Big Orange what they did to the Big Apple in Escape From New York – with even more futuristic thrills and slam-bang action! Into the 9.6-quaked Los Angeles of 2013 comes Snake Plissken (Russell). His job: wade through L.A.’s ruined landmarks to retrieve a doomsday device. Don’t miss the excitement as Snake surfs Wilshire Blvd., shoots hoops at the Coliseum, dive bombs the Happy Kingdom theme park, and mixes it up with a wild assortment of friends, fiends and foes (Stacy Keach, Steve Buscemi, Peter Fonda, George Corraface, Cliff Robertson, Pam Grier and more). Escape From L.A. is a “go-for-broke action extravaganza!” (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times).

Despite the sequel’s reputation, acclaimed director Bong Joon-ho had shamelessly admitted he’s in the minority of people who would prefer L.A. over New York. During a special screening of Carpenter’s The Thing in Los Angeles last year, Bong told Carpenter that he “was talking with a friend of mine who’s another huge cinephile, and I was telling him that I actually like Escape from L.A. over Escape from New York, and he got furious. He was like, ‘how could you?’ He was very angry, I don’t know why. It’s my choice. Maybe some of you in the audience don’t agree. I respect everyone’s opinion.“

Bong added, “There’s such a distinct sense of colour and life, and energy and excitement in Escape from L.A..” He also mentioned the novelty of seeing basketball and surfing in a sci-fi movie, which Carpenter said was all about including things from L.A. “Who could resist Kurt Russell and Peter Fonda surfing?” When asked if he surfed, Carpenter replied, “Hell no.“
