We don’t see much of John Carpenter anymore, but Hollywood sure is remaking the hell out of his movies… Only a couple days ago came the news that CAA and producer Neil Moritz were shopping around a package that would see Gerard Butler starring in a remake of John Carpenter’s ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, written by Ken Nolan. After an apparently intense bidding war ensued, New Line Cinema came out the victor, and will immediately set about looking for a director (Ridley Scott? Antoine Fuqua? just guesses…), as well as settling on a suitable year for the flick to take place in, since I’m guessing 1998 ain’t gonna cut it anymore.
Butler is a good start, and it should be alotta fun watching the movie’s casting process progress. That is, unless they dare not include such memorable characters as The Duke, Brain, Cabbie, and of course, Maggie (and remember, Selma Blair is no substitute for Adrienne Barbeau. Got it, Moritz?)
Who could possibly fill THOSE roles?
