Eternal at Monster Mania

Fresh from a screening in New York, Regent Releasing’s ETERNAL looks to be a great way to cap off August. The Canadian-made horror/mystery was received pretty well at last year’s FanTasia Festival, and now it looks to gain ever more momentum at this year’s Monster Mania 3, where it will premier for a limited theatrical run (check the official site below for dates). Director Federico Sanchez & actress Victoria Sanchez will conduct a Q & A following the film.

Written and directed by Wilhelm Liebenberg & Federico Sanchez, ETERNAL stars Conrad Pla as Raymond Pope, a Montreal cop with morality issues, searching for his wife after she mysteriously disappears. His search leads him to the home of Elizabeth Kane (played by Caroline Néron), a disturbingly beautiful woman who taunts him with information, but gives no answers. A dangerous game of cat and mouse ensues as Pope’s investigation reveals that while Elizabeth, along with her servant, Irina (Victoria Sanchez), have no documented history, they seem bizarrely connected to the past – particularly to that of Elizabeth Bathory, the Transylvanian countess who murdered 650 women in order to bathe in their blood to remain youthful (a true story, read it here). The closer Pope gets, the more sadistic Elizabeth becomes, systematically targeting those around him and framing him for their murders.

Inspired by the look and feel of classic film-noir and the terrifying storytelling of Hitchcock, ETERNAL’s blend of suspense, horror and perverse romanticism walks delicately between reality and fantasy.

Founded and organized by David Hagen, MONSTER MANIA 3 will take place August 26, 27, and 28, 2005, at the Hilton Hotel 2349 West Marlton Pike, Cherry Hill, NJ. The current guest list includes Wes Craven, Sean S. Cunningham, actors Chris Sarandon, Adrienne Barbeau, and others.
