Eva Longoria joins the cast of Dora the Explorer as Dora’s mother

Dora the Explorer was a little past my time (okay, a lot) but fans of the animated series will likely be pleased to see the capable explorer making her live-action leap to the big-screen. James Bobin (THE MUPPETS) is directing DORA THE EXPLORER from a script by Nicholas Stoller (FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL) and production got underway in Australia earlier this month.

Isabela Moner (TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT) will be stepping into title role of Dora, and THR has now reported that Eva Longoria (DOG DAYS) will be joining the cast as Elena, Dora's mother. Eugenio Derbez, Micke Moreno, Nicholas Coombe, Madeleine Madden, Adriana Barraza, and Temuera Morrison will also be appearing in the film. DORA THE EXPLORER will follow Dora, "a girl who has spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents but now must navigate her most dangerous adventure yet: high school. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego and a rag-tag group of teens on a Goonies-esque adventure to save her parents and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost Inca civilization." Eva Longoria was recently seen in DOG DAYS, an ensemble comedy which "follows the lives of multiple dog owners and their beloved fluffy pals around sunny Los Angeles. When these human and canine's paths start to intertwine, their lives begin changing in ways they never expected."

DORA THE EXPLORER will be hitting theaters on August 2, 2019.
