That’s right, according to Variety, Marlin Manson is set to star alongside real-life girlfriend Evan Rachel Wood (TRUE BLOOD; below) in SPLATTER SISTERS for director Adam Bhala Lough, who plans on making a ‘retro-slasher’ into a franchise by way of a ‘sexploitation-serial-killer-slasher-road-movie circa 1989’. I shit you not.
What’s great is that Lough loves these types of slasher movies and wants to recreate the awesomeness of those straight to video slashers of the late 80s, but with a bigger budget and bigger stars.
David Gordon Green (director of PINEAPPLE EXPRESS) is on board to produce the flick as well, and sees the potential for something unique in Lough’s vision of “Skinemax Cinema,” stating that Lough has a ‘fresh spin that raises the bar’ on the whole horror genre. We can only hope it pans out as good as it sounds.
Obviously Manson was born to star in a retro-slasher of the like of the late 80s, and I’m glad someone has the balls to go for it and make something that is so not mainstream that it’s not even funny. Totally right up his alley.
No word on when filming is expected to do underway, nor is there anything about a story or script out there, so stick right here as we wait to find out more about SPLATTER SISTERS!
