Evil Dead (2013) Revisited – Horror Movie Review

A while back, we covered the Sam Raimi classic Evil Dead II as part of our Deconstructing… video series. Now a new episode of Deconstructing… has been released, and in this one we’re digging into the franchise reboot that was brought to us by director Fede Alvarez (with Raimi producing) back in 2013. To see Evil Dead 2013 (watch it HERE) get the Deconstructing… treatment, check out the video embedded above!

Scripted by Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues, Evil Dead 2013 has the following synopsis:

Mia, a drug addict, is determined to kick the habit. To that end, she asks her brother, David, his girlfriend, Natalie, and their friends Olivia and Eric to accompany her to their family’s remote forest cabin to help her through withdrawal. Eric finds a mysterious Book of the Dead at the cabin and reads aloud from it, awakening an ancient demon. All hell breaks loose when the malevolent entity possesses Mia.

The film stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas, and Elizabeth Blackmore.

Deconstructing… is a web series in which we choose one of your favorite horror movies and take it apart piece by piece (lovingly, of course) to see what makes it a classic. Each episode examines the origins, legacy and mysteries behind our beloved genre’s most iconic titles… but we play fast and loose with the rules, so expect the unexpected!

The Evil Dead 2013 episode was Written, Edited, and Narrated by Gregory Burkart, Produced by Tyler Nichols and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.

A couple of the previous episodes of Deconstructing… can be seen below, including the one on Evil Dead II. To see more episodes, and to check out our other shows, head over to the JoBlo Horror Originals YouTube channel – and subscribe while you’re there!
