Well folks now that the cat is out of the bag I’m guessing we can expect a lot of EVIL DEAD updates to come spilling our way in the next few months, right? I mean an EVIL DEAD remake… this will probably be a pretty hot project around these genre parts, whether we’re down for this shite or not.
So with that being said allow me to tell you all about the latest news regarding this reboot/remake/reimagining. It seems newly appointed director Federico Alvarez is pretty excited about the gig because he’s already chatting it up! Spanish site El Pais caught up with the filmmaker and asked what he was planning with this remake:
“We realize the mistakes not to make. As fans of the original, we know we are going to offend those who are also fans just by taking this job. We’re going to honor the original film along with the existing fans and hope to bring in a new audience as well.
Because we are fans of the original, we realize that nobody wants to see a celebrity in a remake like this. The only recognizable face will be that of Bruce Campbell, and he will be in a cameo toward the end of the film. We are going to change the characters and some story details, while keeping the basic outline of friends who are beleaguered by demons in a cabin alone.
Sam Raimi says there’s a fine line between horror and comedy. The original Evil Dead was intended as a straight horror movie with scenes of extreme gore directly designed to shock the viewer. I rented the movie with a friend from a video store at just thirteen years old, and that was a big mistake! The film scared the life out of us.”
So as you can see the director has happily confirmed that Bruce Campbell would indeed be lending over his chin for a cameo in this remake. At least Alvarez seems to be going in a decent direction out of the gate, right? Could this EVIL DEAD reboot actually be pretty decent? Time will tell I suppose.
Diablo Cody is reworking Alvarez’s previous script as we speak so we can expect a lot more EVIL DEAD updates soon!
