Evil Dead remake news…

We’ve been hearing all sorts of loose talk regarding an EVIL DEAD sequel, or remake – or both – for quite some time. Now there finally seems to be some movement on the remake front… It just not exactly the remake you expect.

According to Screen Daily, producer Don Carmody (WRONG TURN, GOTHIKA) is apparently in negotiations with Sam Raimi to bring EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL to the big screen… Didn’t see that one comin’, didja?

Director of the off-Broadway show Christopher Bond (who wrote the original 1973 play SWEEWEY TODD: THE DEOMN BARBER OF FLEET STREET) and the show’s choreographer Hinton Battle would co-direct the flick, which would be presented in 3-D… Carmody told Screen International he hopes to shoot the film in the spring of next year in Toronto with some of the original cast. However, he adds, serious rights issues still need to be resolved.

I’m uninterested in this. Of course, I’d much prefer an EVIL DEAD 4, but to be honest, I’d even prefer a straight-up remake to this goofiness (keep your hate mail, I’m not advocating such blasphemy). Why don’t we all just save ourselves the time and put this project in turnaround now; its inevitable death needs to be fast-tracked…
