While it’s still early in the process, Red told us that he optioned the best-selling novel “SON OF THE ENDLESS NIGHT” by John Farris, author of “THE FURY,” and has just completed the first draft of the script, called THE DEVIL’S DEFENSE. So what’s the DEVIL’S DEFENSE all about? Check it: The story is about a young Vermont lawyer who takes the case of a man who murdered his girlfriend while possessed by a demon. The attorney tries to get his client off on an insanity plea but the devil wants to go to trial.
That’s right folks, it’s a courtroom drama mixed with horror from the man who gave us THE HITCHER and NEAR DARK. Excited? You should be! Red had this to say about the book his screenplay is based on: I think that the book is the scariest and most convincing novel of demonic possession since THE EXORCIST and is also a unique courtroom thriller.
Hells yeah. I’ve never read the book, and now I have a reason to seak it out and get sucked in. Considering Red’s praise of the book, and author Stephen King calling Farris “America’s premiere novelist of terror,” it should be almost mandatory to check this sucker out.
