If you happen to live in the Los Angeles area – or plan on visiting around this time of year – you owe yourself a visit to Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights. In fact, this year happens to offer some of the most unique and exciting mazes the park has ever featured. With Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper and Eli Roth all adding a touch of terror, it all builds up to one of the spookiest times at a theme park you will ever have.
The real star however is a man named John Murdy, the creative director for Universal Studios. He is also the man who continues to bring Halloween Horror Nights to life by creating new and exciting ways to scare every man, woman and child who dare enter the park in the dark of the night.
Mr. Murdy took a little bit extra time to talk to us while we were waiting inside THE THING maze for the film’s junket. The maze tells the story of the new Universal Studios feature film, and places you right in the thick of it. This was one maze that surprised me as to how damn creepy it actually is. Mr. Murdy spoke to us about the maze and how it came alive. And yes, every single night at Halloween Horror Nights, it comes alive to prey upon the weak.
John Murdy truly loves horror, and as a fan it is clear that this yearly event means the world to him. His passion for horror, and the way he talks to everybody at the park, he has become somewhat of a rock star. He is the true hero of Halloween Horror Nights! If you are looking to get scared, either check it out at your local theatre and catch THE THING. And after the movie… maybe you should come to this terrifying, real life scareventure! Yeah, I said it, scareventure! THE THING maze is truly a mindf*ck waiting to happen.
