Exclusive: Jude Law and his crew try to survive in this clip from Black Sea

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Jude Law has turned into a very surprising actor. When he first hit the scene in films like A.I. and THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY, it almost felt like Hollywood was forcing him to be an A-lister. Fast forward to now and Law has not headlined a major film in a while. Yeah, he has been a supporting player in several Steven Soderbergh films and the SHERLOCK HOLMES franchise, but as a leading man he has found a comfortable home in smaller productions like DOM HEMINGWAY and the upcoming BLACK SEA.

BLACK SEA seems to be feeding on the same character darkness as DOM HEMINGWAY, allowing Law to play his role as a duplicitous submarine captain without being concerned about the tropes of a major studio film. This gives director Kevin McDonald the ability to really take BLACK SEA to some interesting places.

A suspenseful adventure thriller directed by Academy Award winner Kevin Macdonald, centering on a rogue submarine captain (two-time Academy Award nominee Jude Law) who pulls together a misfit crew to go after a sunken treasure rumored to be lost in the depths of the Black Sea. As greed and desperation take control onboard their claustrophobic vessel, the increasing uncertainty of the mission causes the men to turn on each other to fight for their own survival.

This exclusive clip from the film gives us some of that thrilling in-fighting amongst the crew even while their submarine is on the brink of destruction. BLACK SEA looks like one hell of a thriller and if the rest of the movie is as good as this brief scene, we are in for a treat.

BLACK SEA opens in theaters on January 23, 2015.
