Despite finding major success in the TV plane, Taylor Sheridan hasn’t exactly left the movie world. His long-gestating project at Warner Bros., F.A.S.T., was set to release in the spring on April 23, 2027. However, Deadline now reports that the movie will be rescheduled to a month later in what is more seen as the start of the summer movie season on May 14, 2027. This moves F.A.S.T. out of competition with Spaceballs: The New One, which is building more hype after San Diego Comic-Con.
Taylor Sheridan wrote the script for F.A.S.T., which is slated to be directed by Ben Richardson, who helmed nearly every episode of Sheridan’s 1923. It’s an action-thriller starring Brandon Sklenar (1923), LaKeith Stanfield (Play Dirty), Jason Clarke (The Last Frontier), Sam Claflin (The Count of Monte Cristo), and Trevante Rhodes (The Predator).
The film revolves around a “former special forces commando, down on his luck after he returns Stateside, who is tapped by the DEA to lead a black op strike team against CIA-protected drug dealers in his town.”
Sheridan wrote the script in the mid-2010s, and Warner Bros. picked it up, with Sheridan initially wanting to helm the project himself. Chris Pratt was even eyed to step into the leading role. Gavin O’Connor (The Accountant) eventually signed on to direct, but ownership of the studio changed hands. The parent company thought releasing a movie with a budget between $60 million to $70 million theatrically wasn’t a wise financial decision, but also thought it was too expensive for streaming. Thus, it was put on the back burner.
Now, given Sheridan’s enormous success, Warner Bros. Discovery was only too happy to make a deal to resurrect the project. “The breadth of Taylor Sheridan’s body of work is simply astounding and unparalleled in sheer excellence and consistent quality and we could not be more honored to be making this film with him,” Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group’s Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy said in a statement. “With the hugely talent director Ben Richardson behind the camera and the exceptional producing talents of Heyday Films and Bosque Ranch, we are thrilled to have such an incredible creative team bringing F.A.S.T. to the big screen.“
