Sad to say, the word coming from people who have seen the new FRIDAY THE 13TH has been… mixed, at best. There are a handful that do like it, but there seems to be an even greater amount of folks who are simply not impressed. Maybe one or two actually seriously dislike it. Of course this won’t stop me – or most of you, for that matter – from giving it a look when it hits theaters this weekend. The question is, will this be the version we want to see? Will we be better off waiting to Netflix it..?
That’s the question in my head when I read THIS Fangoria article, which says that the movie in theaters is most definitely a truncated version – and I don’t mean just gore and nudity. Alright, not completely…
“There were a couple of story points cut out of the movie that will appear in the extended version, and maybe a little bit more violence and nudity,” producer Andrew Form says. “There’s one story point, a big thing that happens in the extended cut, that doesn’t occur in the movie [as it will play in theaters], and I still believe we made the right choice to take it out. We’ll also have a special section on the disc for deleted scenes that are not in the extended cut. So there will be portions we put back into the film, and then additional deleted scenes on top of that.”
So lots of “story points” being kept from us, as it were. Now, I hear you saying “Who gives a f*ck about story points? This ain’t David Mamet, motherf*cker!” And I understand that, but if they are Jason-related story points, well dammit, I would like to know them! His is a twisted mythology, and I like knowing all of my main slasher’s childhood hang-ups and failings so I can better sympathize with the big oaf.
Well, we’ll see when the Extended Edition DVD is released later this year, probably during the summer.
