F9: Jason Statham wants in on Han’s Fast & Furious return

The #JusticeForHan movement really wouldn't exist if Jason Statham's character, Deckard Shaw, hadn't killed Han Lue (Sung Kang) in Tokyo Drift/Fast & Furious 6 only to be redeemed in The Fate of the Furious. That redemption practically saw the Fast family accepting Shaw into their fold, despite taking out a trusted member of their crew. As we know from all the Fast & Furious 9 trailers, Han is back and now Jason Statham wants in on his return because he feels like there would be no #JusticeForHan without him.

In a recent interview with "Entertainment Weekly", Statham revealed that he thinks there is a score to settle between Shaw and Han and he wants to see that resolved with a return to the Fast & Furious franchise for himself. Statham says "They better bring me back, because I need to put out that fire. If he's got any score to settle, it's with me."

After Statham was featured as the main villain in Furious 7, the actor went on to appear in The Fate of the Furious and the Fast spinoff Hobbs & Shaw with Dwayne Johnson. There is no word, as of yet, if Statham will be back for the next two installments after Fast & Furious 9 but he does say that if it wasn't for Shaw's journey, there would be no #JusticeForHan:

"Honestly, if none of that happened, Han wouldn't come back. And so when I left [after Fast 6], I came in with Han, I'm leaving with Han. So if there was no justice for Han and I came back, I probably wouldn't have brought him back. Again, it feels like everything happened for a reason. And I'm not here to judge anything, but I'm glad we're able to put the right touches on it, and, like I said in January, 'justice for Han' isn't just this movie. I think how we treat this character as we move forward, that's going to be the 'justice for Han.'"

Unless it's some well-kept secret, Statham won't be appearing in Fast & Furious 9 but he's still hoping to work with director Justin Lin on the next two films because he didn't really get to spend a lot of time working with him before. They only filmed his brief cameo in Fast & Furious 6 and Lin didn't return to direct Furious 7, which was helmed by James Wan. Here is what Statham had to say about returning to the Fast franchise:

"I'm game. I love Justin Lin, he's a great director. It's a shame because when I joined the franchise all those years back, he went on to do something else and all I did with Justin was a little tag at the end. I need to do a movie with him. And I'd love to see all the Fast crew, Vin [Diesel] and everybody, they're all great people. I have a lot of affection for them."

In Fast & Furious 9, "Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto is leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, little Brian, but they know that danger always lurks just over their peaceful horizon. This time, that threat will force Dom to confront the sins of his past if he’s going to save those he loves most. His crew joins together to stop a world-shattering plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered: a man who also happens to be Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob (John Cena)."
