Fast & Furious 9 speeds away from No Time to Die for a May 2021 release

It was just hours ago when it was announced that the release of NO TIME TO DIE had been pushed to April 2, 2021. As that date happened to be when the ninth FAST & FURIOUS film was slated hit theaters, I guessed that Universal would soon be pushing F9 to a later date. Well, we didn't have to wait all that long as Universal has now announced that F9 has been pushed back to May 28, 2021.

F9 was originally slated to hit theaters back in March, but just like about every other film out there, the spread of COVID-19 prompted Universal to push its release back. The new film will find Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) confronting the sins of his past when his team goes up against the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they've ever encountered: Dom's forsaken brother, Jakob (John Cena). Justin Lin returns to the director's chair once again for an action blockbuster that will take the team from London to Tokya, from Central America to Edinburgh, and from a secret bunker in Azerbaijan to the teeming streets of Tblisi. In addition to Diesel and Cena, F9 will also star Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Helen Mirren, and Charlize Theron.

The official synopsis for F9:

Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto is leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, little Brian, but they know that danger always lurks just over their peaceful horizon. This time, that threat will force Dom to confront the sins of his past if he’s going to save those he loves most. His crew joins together to stop a world-shattering plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered: a man who also happens to be Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob (John Cena).

F9 will hit theaters on May 28, 2021, at least, that's the hope.
