Father Stu trailer stars Mark Wahlberg and Mel Gibson as men of unwavering faith

Sony Pictures has released a Father Stu trailer that will have you shouting hallelujah! Inspired by a true story, Father Stu tells the tale of a boxer-turned-priest, Father Stuart Long, whose journey from self-destruction to redemption inspired countless people along the way.

The Father Stu trailer introduces Stuart Long, a man who falls head over heels for a Catholic woman and decides to change the course of his life to be by her side. Sadly, Stuart becomes involved in a tragic motor vehicle accident that leaves him with a progressive muscle disorder. With God on his side and the odds stacked against him, Stuart embarks on a journey of faith that will take his soul higher than the heavens above.

Directed and written by Rosiland Ross, Sony’s Father Stu movie will kneel at the alter of the cinema gods on Friday, April 15. When Ross’ Father Stu movie opens in theaters, it will do so alongside Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. Jacki Weaver and Teresa Ruiz also star alongside Wahlberg and Gibson.

“Father Stu’s journey from troublemaker to clergyman was inspiring to many, including me,” said Wahlberg. “Rosey has done an incredible job capturing the essence of who he was and how he affected the people he met. I hope that with this film, we keep his spirit alive and continue his good works.”

Up next for Wahlberg is Sony’s Uncharted, starring Tom Holland and Antonio Banderas. Wahlberg plays Victor “Sully” Sullivan alongside Hollan’s Nathan Drake in the film, which serves as a prequel to the best-selling video game franchise from Naughty Dog.
