Halo fans have Red Vs. Blue, and now F.E.A.R. fans have P.A.N.I.C.S.
Okay, that doesn’t explain much, so I’ll elaborate. A group of guys calling themselves Rooster Teeth Productions took it upon themselves once Halo was released to do a series of humourous shorts using the game engine itself. The guys would create a multiplayer game, with one person as the ‘camera man’, and the others were the ‘actors’. They then act out and record scenes to match dialogue that they recorded previously. Basically, it’s a cheap yet effective way to create a show in a relatively short amount of time, and the resulting efforts (check out the results) are clever and hilarious. Well, the same guys behind Red Vs. Blue decided to do the same thing again, this time using the upcoming horror-action game F.E.A.R.
The result was P.A.N.I.C.S., or People Acting Normally In Creepy-ass Situations. The first episode comes across as a horror-themed take on Rooster Teeth’s previous effort, but that shouldn’t stop you in the slightest. The “pilot” episode of P.A.N.I.C.S. will be available only on the Director’s Edition DVD of F.E.A.R., which is due October 18th. Regardless of whether or not P.A.N.I.C.S. has the legs to carry on for as long as Red Vs. Blue remains to be seen, but at least you’ll be enjoying yourself watching it, right?
