Fede Alvarez still onboard Evil Dead 2! Sequel is ‘very much alive’

Yesterday we hit you with the news that director Fede Alvarez, who helmed this years remake of EVIL DEAD and was set to direct the sequel, and Rodo Sayagues, Alvarez's writing partner for EVIL DEAD 2, were no longer attached to the project with Gorosito.TV reporting that Sayagues had stated…

Look, I am sorry to tell you this but that movie won’t happen. Evil Dead 2 is not going to happen, at least not with us involved. We left that project many months ago because we preferred to put our energies on other things. I don’t know if the producers still have intentions of making it. But what I can tell you is that we are not part of that project."

That sounded rather definite, didn't it? Not so, apparently. Alvarez himself took to Twitter to address the rumor that he was no longer attached to EVIL DEAD 2, sending out this reply tweet:

And now B-D is reporting that Alvarez is still attached, sharing that Alvarez has confirmed that, “stuff got lost in translation” with Sayagues in the Gorosito interview published yesterday. He elaborated…

“Rodo meant we’re not actually making ‘Evil Dead 2′ right now because the priority is Sam’s ‘Army of Darkness 2.’ But the plan of making a sequel to our ‘Evil Dead’ is very much alive.”

That sounds pretty official to me.

Personally I'm glad to hear that Alvarez is still attached as I feel he did a pretty solid job with EVIL DEAD and would love to see what he can deliver with the sequel.
