Fever Dream trailer: Netflix releasing Claudia Llosa film in October

Part of Netflix’s Halloween season “Netflix and Chills” slate of programming is director Claudia Llosa’s Spanish-language horror film Fever Dream, which will be receiving a limited theatrical release on October 6th before it reaches the streaming service on October 13th. Will those dates drawing near, we’ve gotten our hands on the trailer for Fever Dream, and you can give it a look in the embed above.

Based on a novel by Samanta Schweblin, who wrote the screenplay with Llosa, Fever Dream has the following synopsis:

Told from a decidedly feminine perspective, this hallucinatory tale explores the interconnected nature of love and fear in motherhood. A woman named Amanda vacations in a sleepy Argentine village with her young daughter Nina. Ever-concerned with her daughter’s welfare, Amanda constantly calculates the “rescue distance” needed to protect her child. She soon discovers that things around her are not as they seem. A local boy named David interrogates Amanda, as she struggles to make sense of her surroundings. The beauty of the bucolic countryside is a striking counterpoint to an eerie story of dark forces, powerful emotions, and pervasive dangers.

The film stars Maria Valverde, Dolores Fonzi, Emilio Vodanovich, German Palacios, and Guillermo Pfening.

Mark Johnson produced Fever Dream with Tom Williams, Pablo Larraín, and Juan De Dios Larraín.

It appears that Fever Dream is an appropriate title for this film, because the trailer makes it look like it’s going to deliver a very strange, unsettling viewing experience.

Llosa’s previous directing credits include Madeinusa, The Milk of Sorrow, and her English debut Aloft. Although Llosa is from Peru, she filmed Fever Dream in Chile and many of the cast members are from Argentina. IndieWire suggests that the film could end up being an Oscar contender for Best International Feature Film.

I’ll be checking it out once it reaches Netflix.
