WER, the horror flick from the peeps who brought us THE DEVIL INSIDE (thanks…?), has gained some momentum.
Last week we brought you a brief update on the project, letting you in on the title and start date (April 9th). Now the movie has gotten a big boost from finance/distribution company FilmDistrict, which has taken an equity stake in the picture, which is being co-financed by Sierra/Affinity. FilmDistrict will likely end up distributing.
The studio has made a name for itself in the past year by releasing intriguing genre fare; its 2011 slate included DRIVE, INSIDIOUS and DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK. (The results, obviously, have been mixed.) For the future, in addition to WER, they’re working on the EVIL DEAD remake and INSIDIOUS 2.
As far as WER goes, the plot apparently deals with a suspect who turns into a werewolf within a police station. It’s believed that director William Brent Bell will at least partially utilize the found footage format that is so prevalent nowadays. (It surely assisted THE DEVIL INSIDE to a shockingly profitable $56 million worldwide gross thus far.)
