Last summer, it was announced that Robert Eggers (THE WITCH) would be writing and directing a remake of F.W. Muranu's 1922 silent classic NOSFERATU, which was previously remade by Werner Herzog in 1979. NOSFERATU will not be Eggers' next film, however, and while we wait to see if/when he will get around to making it production has already begun on a separate NOSFERATU remake. Or, as the director refers to it, a remix.
The director is David Lee Fisher, a filmmaker who has experience "remixing" silent classics. His previous movie was the 2005 remake of Robert Wiene's 1920 film THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI. For Fisher's version, the actors performed their roles in front of a green screen so they could be inserted into digital recreations of the original sets. That is the exact same approach he is taking to his NOSFERATU.
Playing the eponymous vampire is veteran creature performer Doug Jones. He's joined in the cast by Emrhys Cooper, Joely Fisher, Sarah Carter, and Jake Turner.
NOSFERATU follows
a young woman’s supernatural quest to not only save her true love’s soul, but in fact the entire world from the shadow of infernal darkness.
The NOSFERATU remix is being produced by Paula Elins, Derek Zemrak, and Leonard Pirkle.
