Financial troubles cause MGM to cancel plans for Darren Aronofsky’s Robocop

Like most of you, I’m not a huge fan of remaking classic films from the past that still stand strong today. One of those film’s is ROBOCOP. It’s no secret there’s been a ROBOCOP reboot in the works for a couple years now. It’s also no secret most fans out there absolutely hated this idea. Well folks, your prayers have been answered because ROBOCOP has officially been shelved!

Now to be completely honest this news kind of upsets me. Sure, ROBOCOP didn’t need a reboot… but that shite was coming from Darren Aronofsky… and in my eyes Aronofsky can do no wrong. Seriously… a ROBOCOP flick from Aronofsky? That idea almost got me as excited as Aronofsky’s BLACK SWAN! … Almost. But alas it seems things just weren’t meant to be. Let me get into the details.

You see the Financial Times recently ran a report about MGM’s financial troubles and the projects they were affecting. It seems one of those projects is ROBOCOP. The guys over at Moviehole.net did a little digging and got confirmation from a source at MGM:

“Gone. Kaput. Canceled. It was one of the first casualties. [Darren] has lost interest anyway, I believe. Think we’re all just going to have to be happy with the three RoboCop movies that are out there.”

Major bummer man. Though I suppose if Aronofsky has lost interest, so have I, and anyone else that might’ve been looking forward to this one. Then again folks this is Hollywood so you never know what the future holds…

So what do you guys think? Are you happy we won’t be seeing a new ROBOCOP flick anytime soon or, like me, were you excited for this one? Hit us with your thoughts on the situation below!
