Two days ago we discovered a couple things about David Fincher’s remake of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO. First, that the film will boast a “very hard R-rating,” and second, that Sony brass are intent on keeping Fincher onboard to direct all three of Stieg Larsson’s Swedish novels. Now, courtesy of eRc Box Office, we now when we’ll be able to see Fincher’s version in theaters!
But before I give y’all the date in question, let’s not forget the titular lead has yet to be cast…and with August upon us, that leaves roughly 16 months for Fincher an Co. to finish casting, shoot, edit, print and ad the damn thing. Not insurmountable by any means, but these cats better get on the ball soon. Word is they’re conducting a worldwide search to find the perfect choice to play Lisbeth Salander.
Now that I’ve strung you out long enough…let’s get right down to it. THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO has been tagged with a December 12, 2011 release date. Given this timing and Fincher’s pedigree, you think this flick will be an Oscar contender? At least Sony’s giving themselves a shot.
THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO dates back forty years ago, when Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering on the island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger clan. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder and that the killer is a member of his own tightly knit but dysfunctional family. He employs disgraced financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, ruthless computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate. When the pair link Harriet’s disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from almost forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history. But the Vanger’s are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.
