First image of Kevin Zegers as blood-thirsty human in Vampire

A couple weeks ago came the news that Japanese director Iwai Shunji was making his English-language debut with the unusual horror film VAMPIRE, which is about a young schoolteacher with a taste for human blood, who searches for suicidal young women as his victims on a website. We don’t know a whole lot else about the film, but it’s got a fresh take on the vampire myth and pretty cool cast – including Kevin Zegers, Amanda Plummer, Rachael Leigh Cook, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Kristin Kreuk and Adelaide Clemens – so it definitely deserves some attention.

Those kooks over at Twitchfilm.net hit up the Vancouver-based set of VAMPIRE and had a chance to talk with the cast, most notably Zegers (pictured above), who is tackling the lead role. The actor had some interesting things to say about Iwai’s production.

“Anytime I get a bearing of where I am, I sort of start all over again. I’ve been [acting] since I was a little kid, and this is like nothing I’ve ever done. It feels different, but it feels better.”

“Shunji is a very visual guy, and we’re doing [the killing scenes] in a very different way than I think audiences are used to. Certainly it’s different than I thought it would be… I feel very fragile on this movie. I’m doing this movie because I doubted my ability to do it.”

It’s always hard to separate the typical actor-y b.s. with the truth, but let’s hope Zegers is telling it like it is and that Iwai does indeed have a disturbing new take on the tired genre. (For what it’s worth, a comparison to AMERICAN PSYCHO is drawn.)

Check out the full set visit article at Twitch, which also includes a strange image featuring Plummer.
