First images from Queen of the Desert with James Franco and Nicole Kidman

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Werner Herzog is a director with few peers. The German filmmaker has been writing and directing movies for decades and has graced the screen with some of the most astounding films of all time. He has dabbled in narrative, documentary, horror, action, and even more. Hell, Herzog even recently guest-starred on PARKS AND RECREATION and lent his voice to Dreamworks’ PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR. The guy truly is all over the place.

Herzog’s next film is the epic historical drama QUEEN OF THE DESERT which stars Nicole Kidman as British explorer Gertrude Bell. A fansite for the film has posted the first images from the production which showcase Kidman as well as co-star James Franco. The movie also stars Robert Pattinson as T.E. Lawrence (aka Lawrence of Arabia) and others. The movie looks beautiful as you can see below.

Nicole Kidman has had a string of lackluster films in recent years ranging from the Grace Kelly biopic GRACE OF MONACO to her direct to VOD thriller BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP. Werner Herzog is not exactly known for making Hollywood type movies, but this looks like a pretty big budget affair. Here’s hoping the finished product looks as good as these stills.

QUEEN OF THE DESERT has no release date but will premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival.
