12 YEARS A SLAVE is the next film from director Steve McQueen (HUNGER, SHAME) and it has a stellar cast for his adaptation of the autobiography of Solomon Northup. USA Today has the first images from the movie and it features Chiwetel Ejiofor (who plays Northup) as well as Benedict Cumberbatch and Michael Fassbender. 12 YEARS A SLAVE also stars Paul Dano, Paul Giamatti, Sarah Paulson, Brad Pitt and Quvenzhané Wallis.
Synopsis:
12 Years a Slave is based on the 1853 autobiography of Solomon Northup, a free black man who was kidnapped in Washington D.C in 1841 and sold into slavery. He worked on plantations in the state of Louisiana for 12 years before his release.
With McQueen helming the film and a pretty awesome cast this could be a powerful film. Fassbender plays a cruel plantation owner which should be fantastic to see but clearly this isn't DJANGO UNCHAINED. Don't be surprised if you hear a lot of Oscar buzz for the movie once awards season starts.
12 YEARS A SLAVE is scheduled to be released on December 27th, 2013.
