First look at Clint Eastwood, Amy Adams, and Justin Timberlake in baseball drama Trouble With The Curve

The upcoming baseball drama, TROUBLE WITH THE CURVE, starring Clint Eastwood, Amy Adams, Justin Timberlake, John Goodman, Matthew Lillard, and Robert Patrick is heading to theaters in just a few short months and today we have a first look at some of the actors in the film.  Directed by Eastwood’s longtime assistant director, Robert Lorenz, it’s the first time Eastwood has acted in a film he’s not directing in more than twenty years.

Eastwood plays an aging Atlanta Braves baseball scout whose vision is failing him.  In an attempt to secure one of the most sought after players, Eastwood enlists the help of his daughter, played by Adams, to be his eyes.

“He gets his chance to prove whether he still has value as a scout—and as a dad,” says Lorenz. “They’re having trouble communicating. They always have, and now they’ve come to a point in the relationship where it’s either going to change or it’s not. He needs a little help, and she decides it’s worth the effort.”

Of course there’s competition on the field as Eastwood has to contend with younger scouts all vying for the same player.  One such scout is played by Matthew Lillard and another by Justin Timberlake, who befriends Eastwood’s character and serves as a love interest for Adams.

“At every moment she’s ready to throw it in, Justin’s character is there to sort of remind her of the value of continuing to pursue their relationship,” Lorenz says.

Eastwood is always a commanding presence, even at 82, so it’s great to see him onscreen again (last time was GRAN TORINO).  The film itself sounds pretty formulaic, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be entertaining.  Far from it, especially with the talent involved.

I’d expect a trailer to come along any day now, which should give everyone a feel for what direction this is going.  Either way it’s a great cast and an engaging story, even if a familiar one, so I’m onboard to see more.

TROUBLE WITH THE CURVE opens on September 28, 2012.

I do love me some Amy Adams…
