First Looks: Nicole Kidman as Grace Kelly and James McAvoy and Jim Broadbent in Filth

Here are a couple of first looks at some movies that could not be more different. One is a classy look at a Hollywood icon who became a real princess and the other is an adaptation of a novel about a raccist cop from Scotland involved in a murder investigation.

First up are some set photos and a promotional shot from GRACE OF MONACO starring Nicole Kidman as Grace Kelly. Not exactly a physical transformation but in terms of style and appearance, Kidman fits the bill. The film will follow the story of former Hollywood star’s involvement with Monaco’s Prince Rainier III and France’s Charles De Gaulle dispute over tax laws in the early 1960s.

The movie is not due until 2014 and is not designed to be a full biography of Grace Kelly, instead focusing entirely on a six month period. GRACE OF MONACO is being directed by Olivier Dahan and also stars Tim Roth, Paz Vega, Parker Posey, Frank Langella and Milo Ventimiglia.

We also have some stills from FILTH, the adaptation of the Irvine Welsh novel. Fans of TRAINSPOTTING know that Welsh has a very distinct writing style and generally doesn’t share warm and fuzzy stories.

Plot: Our hero, Detective Sergeant Bruce Robertson, is a cross between Harvey Keitel in Bad Lieutenant and John Belushi in Animal House. His task is to nab a killer who has brained the son of the Ghanaian ambassador, but bigoted Bruce is more urgently concerned with coercing sex from teenage Ecstasy dealers, planning vice tours of Amsterdam, and mulling over his lurid love life. He’s also got a tapeworm.

Nice. I love Welsh’s writing even though some novels are incredibly difficult to read (MARABOU STORK NIGHTMARES) but the stories are phenomenal. FILTH stars James McAvoy, Jim Broadbent, Jamie Bell, Eddie Marsan, and Imogen Poots and is being directed by Jon S Baird.

These shots are moody and you can almost feel the sleaze coming through your screen. McAvoy looks like he packed on a few for the role and Broadbent has one of the most jacked up foreheads I have ever seen.

FILTH currently has no release date.
