This is another one of those stories that makes you go ‘huh?’ and leaves you confused all day.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Rogue Pictures is bringing back the infamous 70’s shock-doc FACES OF DEATH in the form of a remake. As most of you folks know, the faux-documentary and its sequels purportedly showed actual deaths of real-life people and animals (which for the most part was untrue). J.T. Petty (the dude behind S&MAN and the upcoming film based on the SPLINTER CELL series) is reportedly in negotiations to ‘write’ and ‘direct’ the ‘remake’, which will be produced by Rick Benattar, Susan Montford and Don Murphy of Angry Films.
For those wondering, the remake would be in the tradition of the SAW franchise, with the film being a straightforward feature and not a ‘documentary’. It would be low-budget (surprise, surprise) and a possible franchise itself.
Now, I’ve never been a fan of these ‘documentaries’, since it really is nothing more than horror fan porn (gore for the sake of gore) and really, who gets off on seeing real people/animals die? At least with SAW or HOSTEL, you know that what’s on the screen is not real and the folks doing this stuff are just acting. But FACES OF DEATH and the spinoffs? Sure, some of the stuff is fake, but for the stuff that’s real, that’s some pretty morbid shite that really shouldn’t be sold for a profit. Am I wrong or am I right? You decide.
