Well this should be interesting. Dan Fogler has signed on to indie thriller/drama NUMBER THRITEEN to play legendary director Alfred Hitchcock. If you’re not familiar with Fogler, suffice to say he is a Jack Black-like talent when it comes to comedy.
He started getting notice when he won the Tony Award for his role in THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE playing a kid who spells out the words on the floor with his foot while competing. Considering the title alone for a number of his upcoming projects makes me laugh – BALLS OF FURY anyone? – I’m pretty comfortable telling you to keep an eye out for him.
No word specifically on what drew him to a thriller (of sorts), but he’ll join a cast that will likely feature Ewan McGregor and Geoffrey Rush in the other two leads. The story will center on Hitchcock’s lost and unfinished first film, “Number Thirteen.” In this drama, the helmer gets caught up in a Hitchcockian dilemma when he ends up in a love triangle with two crew members while making the film. When the lead actor turns up dead, the editor suspects the director and tries to uncover the truth.
Nothing like chubby and serious to mix up a career that’s being built on chubby and funny. It’s all about range my friends. Mark my words, though, give it a year or two and not single one of you will hear the name Dan Fogler and wonder who the hell is that?
