Francis Lawrence being eyed to direct Battlestar Galactica film

Universal has been attempting to get a feature-film based on Battlestar Galactica off the ground for quite some time with a variety of filmmakers, the most recent being Bryan Singer (X-MEN: APOCALYPSE). With Singer now moving on to other projects, Universal is in the process of putting together a new team to hopefully get things going once again on BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.

Variety reports that Lisa Joy (HBO's Westworld) has been tapped to pen the screenplay and that they're looking at Francis Lawrence (THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE) to direct the picture, but that discussions with Lawrence are still in the very early stages. Roland D. Moore's excellent remake of the series has certainly set a high bar for any further Battlestar Galactica adaptations, but hopefully that will only inspire Universal to step up their game and put a different spin on the Galactica story. Francis Lawrence is also attached to direct an adaptation of The Odyssey for Lionsgate, which could span more than one film. It's been a while since we last heard about THE ODYSSEY, but the plan was to kick off production sometime this year.

If Francis Lawrence doesn't take the gig, who would you like to see direct BATTLESTAR GALACTICA?
