Frank Grillo and Joe Carnahan partner back up to make Wheelman

The last time Frank Grillo and Joe Carnahan teamed up on a movie, we got THE GREY. That movie put Grillo on the map, and he really hasn't looked back since. They were slated to get together again when Carnahan still had DEATH WISH on his agenda, but when that project was abandoned over at MGM over differences with the studio on what it should be, their next collaboration fell apart.

Good thing they figured out another film to get working on, with Grillo signing on for WHEELMAN, which Carnahan will be serving as a producer on. Jeremy Rush is directing from his own script, with production scheduled for a September start… and, from the synopsis for the film, this plays to Grillo's strengths as one of cinema's resident badasses these days.

Grillo plays a getaway driver thrust into a high stakes race-to-survive after a bank robbery goes terribly wrong. With a car full of money and his family on the line, the clock is ticking to figure out who double-crossed him, and the only person he can trust is his 14-year-old daughter.

That's exactly the type of character I live for Grillo playing, and I look forward to him sinking his teeth into a movie like this with Carnahan's fingerprints on it.

Grillo can next be seen in THE PURGE: ELECTION YEAR, which hits theaters on July 1.
