Frank Grillo toplines large casting update for ABC’s supernatural series The Gate

With LOST on it’s final season, ABC has to find another series that will carry the network in terms of ratings and overall respect on the coolness level, a new series that will help us forget shite like GREY’S ANATOMY even exists. And from the sounds of it, THE GATE is that series!

Nothing to do with the film with the same name, THE GATE is a supernatural crime show which centers on a big-city cop who becomes chief of police in a seemingly sleepy planned community only to discover there’s much more to the residents than meets the eye.

And no, it doesn’t sound like the residents are Transformers, either. The Hollywood Reporter announced a quartet of actors joining the cast, including PRISON BREAK’s Frank Grillo (right)
as the film’s lead big-city cop. Others rounding out the cast include Luke Mably, Janina Gavankar (below), and Chandra West.

If you were questioning the ‘supernatural’ angle of the show from its brief description, check out these character descriptions for the new cast: Mably will play one of the residents, a cardiologist who is a vampirelike creature. Gavankar will play a local cop with a dark secret. West will play the owner of a tea shop.

Vampirelike creatures have a tendency to rub me the right way, and so far, this show sounds like it has some promise, some potential to be awesome. It’s only strike against it… is that’s it’s going to be on ABC.

Filming is set to start in late March in Louisiana with a late summer debut. Stick around for more on THE GATE as we hear it!
