Anyone see the Taiwanese supernatural thriller SILK? Believe it or not, the sumbitch is already being remade!
True talk. THR broke the story, citing FRANKIE & ALICE scribes Marko King, Mary King and Jonathan Watters as the ones hired to adapt SILK to American audiences. No director has been announced, but Gold Circle Films wants to re-conceive the premise and deviate from the original plot.
Speaking of, here’s the original 2006 plot-crunch:
A team of scientists led by Hashimoto has managed to capture the energy of a ghost child, thanks to their newly invented device called Menger Sponge. The child, isolated in an empty flat, moves his lips to words no one understands. Hashimoto enlists special agent Ye Qi-Dong, who is able to read on lips, in order to figure out how this child can shed light on life…and especially life after death…
Hmm, sounds interesting. Begs the question then, why does Gold Circle want to drastically depart from the source material? Although the exact differences are unknown, a studio rep claims the new version of the film will be more “Michael Crichton meets THE SIXTH SENSE.” Could be a lot worse, ay?
