Okay, so it’s looking like a pretty Lovecraft-esque day for me, at least article-wise. I just finished a report on UNBIRTHEN’D which was inspired by the writings of ol’ H.P. Now I’ve just come across another horror entry lookin’ to give some Love to the craft. This one’s basically a straight-out retelling of H.P.’s short story, THE FESTIVAL, from writer/director Richard Terrasi (AM I EVIL). Here’s how the updated adaptation will unfold:
A struggling author named Charles Keene travels from NYC to meet with his fiancée’s grandparents for a traditional festival held once a year in a small New England town. Upon arrival, he learns that something much stranger and creepier is going on beyond your normal town festival.
Terrasi had to expand on the tale in order to make a feature-length flick. “It’s a story that I’ve been itching to make for a while,” he says. “I had to write a screenplay that would have interesting characters and a good story, and at the same time be faithful to the short piece.”
Sounds like there’s room for some eerie potential. Terrasi added that he’s looking to make a “very dark film driven by visuals, mood and lots of tension.” THE FESTIVAL is currently in production and aiming to wrap in September or October. It stars Kevin Pinassi, Victoria Guthrie and Bill Kozy. You can find a couple of pics from the flick below.
