Fred Savage fired from Wonder Years reboot for alleged inappropriate conduct

Didn’t really see this coming but Fred Savage has been fired from his role as executive producer and director on The Wonder Years reboot following multiple complaints of inappropriate conduct. The exact nature of the conduct is still unknown but an investigation did take place that led to the decision.

A spokesman for 20th Television had this to say about the matter:

“Recently, we were made aware of allegations of inappropriate conduct by Fred Savage, and as is policy, an investigation was launched. Upon its completion, the decision was made to terminate his employment as an executive producer and director of The Wonder Years.”

While the exact details of the conduct remain unclear, Deadline is reporting that some of them may have included verbal outbursts and inappropriate behavior. What I was unaware of before this story broke is that Savage has been the subject of misconduct accusations in the past. Back in 2018, The Wonder Years actress Alley Mills came forward with claims that the cancellation of the original series followed a “completely ridiculous sexual harassment suit” filed by a costumer against Savage (then 16) and Jason Hervey (then 20), which Mills, who played Savage and Hervey’s mother on the show, said was settled out of court. That very same year, a crew member on Savage’s Fox series The Grinder filed a lawsuit, accusing the actor of attacking and harassing her on the set of the series in 2015. At the time, Savage called the allegations “completely without merit and absolutely untrue,” while 20th Television, which produced the show, said that, after an investigation into the claims, it found no evidence of wrongdoing by Savage. That lawsuit also eventually was settled out of court.

The new Wonder Years is still on the bubble in regards to a season two renewal but most in the know say it’s likely to return for a second year. As of this writing, Savage’s reps haven’t commented on the allegations but we will update this story once more information is gathered.
