Creature Corner got word from the inside (New Line Cinema) about the status of FREDDY VS. JASON 2 today that totally blows the idea of Ash’s role in the series out of the water. Rumors have been flying that the next VS. movie will feature Ash from THE EVIL DEAD series, or Leatherface, or Chucky, or Michael Myers… The list of potential candidates to battle it out with the big dogs seemed to never end, and today, the list need not continue further. Their inside source says that while “we’re (New Line Cinema) developing FREDDY VS. JASON 2… neither Ash nor any other franchise creature will be included in the project,” and that they wish “this one doesn’t take ten years” to make. Amen to that, brother!
I was quite impressed with FREDDY VS. JASON, and feel the film did both franchises justice (at least to us, their most devoted fans). But adding another Movie Maniac into the mix would just muddle things up. So now the question is: what now? What clever way to have these two battle it out for the title belt of top serial killer? I always thought they could battle in body count- see which one can kill the most, in the most creative ways during the course of the movie- and whoever wins gets to stay on Earth, while the other goes to eternal Hell. Plenty of opportunity for blood and gore, while leaving it open for yet another sequel. Time will only tell (but hopefully not too much time)….
