Freida Pinto confirmed for Rise of the Apes; John Lithgow joining?!

It was just last week that Jake hit you all with the good word that Don Cheadle and Freida Pinto (below) would be joining Rupert Wyatt’s RISE OF THE APES, the PLANET OF THE APES prequel set up over at 20th Century Fox.

Now apparently that news was just rumblings around the industry because today it was confirmed over at The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog that Freida Pinto would indeed be joining the film. Actually… not only will Pinto be joining the project, but so will John Lithgow! Unfortunately there was no mention of Cheadle but it’s pretty safe to say that’ll be confirmed sooner rather than later.

RISE OF THE APES focuses on a scientist who has been working on a cure for Alzheimer’s that is being tested on apes. The test subject named Caesar evolves rapidly, and the scientist takes him home to live with him and protects him from cruel doctors.

So how about that for a shot from left field? Lithgow (above) will be keeping his feet firmly planted in our genre with RISE OF THE APES, joining James Franco in the Rupert Wyatt project. He’ll be starring as ‘Franco’s Alzheimer’s-stricken father while Pinto will be the movie’s female lead, a primatologist.’ For a project that was met with mixed reactions this thing is picking up a pretty impressive cast, wouldn’t you say?

The film already has a release lined up for June 24, 2011 so things should be shaping up pretty quickly! As always be sure to keep it here for more on RISE OF THE APES as we hear it!
