Friday the 13th is aiming for a summer production date

The delay between 2009's remake and the new incarnation of FRIDAY THE 13TH isn't quite the longest gap in the franchise (unlucky fans had to wait nine years between JASON GOES TO HELL and JASON X), but it's slowly approaching it. However, if they stick to their current tentative timetable, we'll soon be delivered from all this frustrating nonsense.

Our friends over at Bloody Disgusting dug up some details on the film's development: The script, penned by PRISONERS screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski, is due in April, and if it gets greenlit there's a tentative production date this summer. What better time to shoot a movie about summer camp?

Of course, there's a lot that needs to happen between now and then. The film still needs a director, a cast, and a title. Plus, there's no telling what the producers will think of the script when they actually get it next month. So there's still a long way to go before the proposed release date of January 13, 2017, which at this point is beginning to seem like a fantasy.

But here's hoping! They scraped together FRIDAY THE 13TH: A NEW BEGINNING in less than a year, so it's possible, if not a perfect way to do it.
